I used to use old school guitar amps and pedals to get a good sound but since the rise of guitar PC plugins I've completely shifted towards the plugin route.

Above is just one of the many plugins I use right now to get a nice guitar sound.
It is the Neural DSP Tim Henson signature plugin. And I have my own preset which you can download here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nWy5sNB7zml3oWSGHe7lEu6Ble9gMgrt/view?usp=sharing
I've have several Neural DSP plugins and I can truly say they are amazing.
Let's take a quick look at the plugins I use now...
Neural DSP plugins:

Unless you've been living on another planet, you've probably heard several times of Neural DSP plugins.
They are a rather new company developing some amazing guitar and bass plugins for people looking for creating their signature sound using an interface, cable and guitar/ PC.
I use quite a few of these.
For example, I use the Abasi, Petrucci, Tim Henson, Fortin Cali, Gojira, Plini, Rabea and Parallax plugins right now.
With these I can get a wide variety of guitar sounds on my PC.
My favorite of these are probably the Tim Henson, Fortin Cali and Rabea plugins. I use the Rabea for metronome stuff because only the newer ones have a metronome in standalone. I don't have to use a physical metronome or a click sound in my Reaper DAW.
That's rather cool.
Why are the Neural DSP plugins so good I say?
Because you can get a quality modern guitar sound and even a vintage one.
The distortion is clean. Reverb, delay and other effects sound super great too!
You would think that the these plugins sound all the same. And there are quite a few people that say that on forums online.
But for me - when you tweak them properly, you can find so many different sounds for my taste and I'm sure also for everyone else's ears.
The best part is that you don't have to pay the full purchase price online. You can test drive them for a full 14 days and then decide!
Okay, let's move on the other stuff I regularly use...
Kontakt player:

I use Kontakt Player and inside it I use 3 plugins - Modern & Massive drums, One Kit Wonder drums and GroveBass.
All 3 sound amazing inside my Reaper DAW software.
If you need bass and drums to record along the guitar track, these plugins are what you want to create cool sounds.
Now, you don't, of course, need a bass or a drum set to recreate sounds. You can simply use drum and bass programming inside Reaper or any DAW of your choice.
These VST plugins give you presets and samples you can use for further inspiration.
You are your own drum and bass musician.
LANDR samples:

Now, if you're not a multi-instrumentalist or even keyboard player, you need to use some samples from the internet.
Landr.com is a website where to get some nice sounding samples for your DAW. And they are plenty there on this site.
I even use the LANDR plugin inside my Reaper DAW. It's quite handy to have everything at your fingertips.
Quick summary
These 3 categories of plugins are enough for my musical needs at the moment to get a full band inside my DAW.
And what do you use to get a great guitar sound and other instrumental sound on your PC?
